Nintendo wii news channel
At last, the news that parents of young gamers have been waiting for. Now, there’s a way for video game addicts to get up to the minute news from all over the world, while playing their favourite video games.
Nintendo is set to launch an online news service through the Wii console. The Wii News Channel will initially cover popular news stories and images from The Associated Press (AP).
For Wii consoles with a broadband connection and the bundled Opera browser, users will have access to the free news channel, which delivers AP news in English, French, Spanish, Dutch, German, and Swiss-German languages – so quite a wide range of international users will be accommodated
The news of the day will be displayed through an interactive map. Users will be able to zoom into different territories to get news from each region – a bit like drilling down in Google maps.
There’s a two-year contract between Nintendo and AP to provide news and photos – so plenty of time to fine tune and better target the service according to requirements.
The Wii has been a surprise (read massive) hit for Nintendo as it competes with the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 consoles. It has been disappearing quickly from store shelves across the world and is quickly becoming commonplace in many middle-class homes.
