Playstation 3 or Xbox 360
Sony and Microsoft are really going head-to-head of late, with the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 both fighting for the title, and understandly so as they both have pretty darn good equipment. The problem is that we’re not quite comparing apples with apples - if you know what I mean.
The PS 3 looks to offer superior graphics of all the gaming consoles currently available, and it also comes with the new Blu Ray DVD reader, which is the latest video technology.
But in the red corner, the Xbox 360 is no push over, either. It’s ultimately a computer that’s been designed with serious gaming in mind, but you can do a lot more with it than just play video games.
Head to head, both consoles are great buys. However, when you pit the Playstation 3 against the Xbox 360, it’s going to be the price of the consoles that will ultimately determine who wins in this battle over the consumer market.
XBox 360 - Playstation 3 Price Comparison
The ultimate winner for me (and you) in the Playstation 3 vs. the Xbox 360 bust up is all going to come down to how much you’re willing to pay for the ultimate gaming experience. The PS 3, for instance, costs about five hundred dollars, whereas the Xbox 360 only costs around four hundred, and that extra $100 could buy you a couple of the latest video games.
You can do almost as much with the Xbox 360 as you can with the Playstation 3 and you don’t have to shell out the extra money. Both games consoles are very much in demand, so don’t expect to get much of a discount by shopping around, or even waiting a few weeks (or months) before you buy. In my opinion you’d be better off getting the console now and having a few extra months of fun with it.
On paper, the PS 3 looks far superior in performance, but in reality this unfortunately isn’t the case. The xbox’s CPU’s are far better than the PS 3’s SPU’s which ultimately means that it will be a better (and easier) console to develop for - which will result in more and better quality games.
Games, Games and More Games
The Xbox 360 had a massive head start on the PS 3, being on the shelves for about 12 months before the playstaion hit the streets. Add the that the fact that the biggest majority of game developers have adopted the Xbox as their primary platform means that games will always look and perform way better on the 360.
This head start also means that a lot of the original xbox 360 games are now fining their way onto discounted shelves, whereas the PS 3 games will be full price for a while to come yet.
Time Will Tell
Rumors have it that game developers haven’t even come close to harnessing the full processing power of the Playstation 3. That means that, pretty soon, the Playstation 3 could far surpass anything the Xbox 360 can do. However, because the Xbox 360 is like a computer, (it essentially is a computer), it can be upgraded and more features added to it, so you can bet your bottom dollar that Microsoft (and other third party vendors) will have some awesome upgrades on the horizon.
So for my part, the playstation 3 vs xbox 360 war is leaning towards the xbox console. I based that decision on features like price, performance, game selection, graphics and visual qulaity and online support.
